Our process

EXPLORE

For clients who are new to McGarvey Jones, this is the first stage. We engage with you in a face-to-face meeting, a scheduled telephone conversation or a video call. We will have an exploratory discussion with you in order to build an initial picture of your goals and objectives personally as well as financially. We will gain a high-level view of your circumstances and needs as well as providing a more detailed explanation of the service we could offer you.

UNDERSTAND

At this stage we hold a face-to-face meeting with you to begin gathering all the necessary facts and information about your current and existing arrangements. We will seek to clarify and understand why you understand why you have made your existing financial arrangements. We will record your key future life stage events and those of your family. At this meeting we will set out our terms of business and clarify our regulatory position. We take time to discuss the different types of risk associated with financial planning and most importantly record your own position on the investment scale. Taking all this into account, we will re-visit your goals, aspirations and objectives in order to build a financial strategy for you.

The value of an investment with St. James's Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds you select and the value can therefore go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested.

ANALYSE

This is the stage where the highly qualified team at McGarvey Jones, together with support from St. James's Place, begin the detailed analysis of your current situation versus your life stage goals. If there are existing arrangements in place, we obtain the granular detail about these on your behalf. Next, we generate options to help you achieve your goals and objectives and begin to finalise the strategy that will form the basis of our advice.

STRATEGISE

At this point in the process, and for more complex situations, we will provide a strategic view point ahead of the detailed financial recommendations and proposals. We will do this either over the telephone or at a face-to-face meeting. You will only be asked to make in-principle decisions at this point. It is also an opportunity to clarify any aspects of the proposed recommendations that will follow.

IMPLEMENT

At this meeting, we will provide all of the necessary regulatory information about the proposed financial planning. Usually this will involve recommending investment schemes and financial products. We will provide a thorough explanation of our recommended solutions including the key features, benefits and charges. Tax efficiency, tailored to your individual circumstances, is always prominent in our recommendations. This is the stage where your financial plan comes to life.

REVIEW

To complete the cycle or quite often begin it again with our existing client comes this ever so important part of the advice process. Few things in life are certain. Change is one of those certainties. Whilst the best plans always contain contingencies sometimes the unexpected can catch us out. The regular review meetings we hold with our clients are fundamental in helping to keep your financial plans on track and accommodating any unforeseen changes to your circumstances.
