McGarvey Jones Financial Planning was established in 2015 as a Partner Practice of St. James’s Place Wealth Management. At the beginning of 2022, after over 30 years in the industry, Richard McGarvey, the company’s founder, retired from the business and handed over the reins to its new Principals Steve Moy and Tim Vickers. Steve and Tim are highly qualified advisers who are committed to upholding the values and standards that the firm has been built on.

Steve has worked in Financial Services for thirty years and holds both Chartered and Fellowship status. He has provided advice to both private clients and corporate clients during his time in the financial services arena. A leading pensions expert, he has vast experience in all advice areas from retirement, investment and estate planning. His previous role was as a Senior Manager for St. James’s Place; he is married to Lisa and has a beautiful daughter called Elsa who is seven years old. 



Tim joined St. James’s Place in 2015, after spending considerable time developing his skills in wealth management and holistic financial planning. 

Tim has a legal background having been a successful lawyer for 15 years before transitioning to work in financial services.  As a result of extensive study and work within the industry, Tim has been awarded the highest accolade in the industry and is now a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society. Tim has extensive experience with both personal and corporate clients and specialises in all aspects of financial planning including Pension and Investment Planning, Inheritance Tax Planning and Protection needs. Tim has also achieved the qualification for the Society of Later Life Advisers. This is a highly specialised and exclusive qualification which enables Tim to advise on providing security and meeting long term care needs for vulnerable family members. 

Tim lives in Manchester City Centre with his partner Rachael and their Cavapoo Bella. He is an avid Manchester City season ticket holder and enjoys playing badminton for Lancashire, and golf in his spare time.

I’ve worked in various roles in the financial services sector for over 20 years, but I can honestly say that I’ve never enjoyed a role more than working for McGarvey Jones.  I love nothing more than building long-term relationships with clients and assisting the Practice in providing the highest level of service, along with helping my colleagues and peers in achieving their goals, no two days are the same; every challenge gives me a sense of achievement on a daily basis.  

I look after a team that are highly motivated, professional and dedicated, no task is ever too much, we’ve worked hard to create a team environment with a “can do attitude” which I’m proud to say is one of the many assets of the company.  In my spare time I enjoy socialising with family and friends and love to travel as much as possible.

Katherine hails from the Caribbean where her last role was a Senior Customer Services Consultant for the North American giant Scotia Bank. She holds the Diploma in Financial Planning and is passionate about providing the highest levels of service to our clients. She has a teenage son whom she enjoys spending time with when not at work.

I have worked in financial services for 5 years and I am working towards the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Diploma in Financial Planning. I like working at McGarvey Jones as the team are extremely knowledgeable and supportive. I enjoy the technical aspect of Financial Planning, and providing an excellent service for all of our clients.

Outside of work I spend a lot of time with family and friends and love going up to the Lake District. I am also a Bolton Wanderers supporter, and have a huge passion for music.

Hence, they provide access to a carefully selected group of external managers of outstanding ability to manage their range of funds. The external fund managers are selected and closely monitored by the Investment Committee on behalf of our clients.

The St. James’s Place Investment Committee is, in turn, supported by a number of independent external consultancies that are able to provide extensive research into the investment management universe.

The Investment Management approach involves searching and after thorough due diligence, selecting the most suitable fund managers from across the globe. The fund managers performance and suitability is then constantly monitored and reviewed to ensure a consistent approach.

We are able to offer our clients two main routes to professional investment management via the distinctive St. James’s Place Investment Management Approach or via Discretionary Fund Managers, Rowan Dartington, the discretionary fund management and stockbroking arm of St. James’s Place. Depending on our clients’ investment objectives and attitude to risk we will recommend either one of these options or alternatively a blended approach.

In addition to investments we are able to access a wide range of financial products, tax “wrappers” and services that can be tailored specifically to our clients’ needs, making it easier and simpler for them to manage their wealth. We offer advice ranging from retirement and estate planning, through to investment management that offers access to many first-class fund management teams across the globe.
